Last Updated: May 24, 2025

Welcome to the RefPack Registry (the "Service"). These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of our Service. Please read them carefully.

1. Acceptance of Terms

By accessing or using the Service, you agree to be bound by these Terms and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree to these Terms, do not use the Service.

2. Use of the Service

You may use the Service to browse, search, download, and (if you have an account) publish RefPack datasets. You agree to use the Service in compliance with all applicable laws and regulations and not for any unlawful purpose.

Account Registration

To publish packages or access certain features, you may need to create an account. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials and for all activities that occur under your account. You agree to notify us immediately of any unauthorized use of your account.

3. User-Generated Content (Published Packages)

If you publish datasets ("User Content") to the Service:

  • You retain ownership of any intellectual property rights that you hold in your User Content.
  • You grant the Service a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free, sublicensable, and transferable license to use, reproduce, distribute, prepare derivative works of, display, and perform the User Content in connection with the Service and its (and its successors' and affiliates') business, including for promoting and redistributing part or all of the Service.
  • You are solely responsible for your User Content and the consequences of publishing it. You affirm, represent, and warrant that you own or have the necessary licenses, rights, consents, and permissions to publish User Content you submit.
  • You agree not to submit User Content that is copyrighted or subject to third-party proprietary rights, including privacy and publicity rights, unless you are the owner of such rights or have permission from their rightful owner to post the material and to grant the Service all of the license rights granted herein.
  • We reserve the right to remove User Content without prior notice if it violates these Terms or is deemed inappropriate, at our sole discretion.
  • Each dataset you publish should clearly specify its license terms within its data.meta.json manifest (e.g., using an SPDX identifier). Users of your dataset will be bound by the license you specify.

4. Content on the Service (Datasets)

Datasets available on the Service are provided by various publishers, including ourselves ("Official Packages") and third-party users ("Community Packages").

  • Licenses: The use of any dataset obtained from the Service is governed by the license specified by its publisher in the package's metadata. It is your responsibility to review and comply with these licenses. If no license is specified, you should assume the dataset is proprietary and may not be used without explicit permission from the publisher.
  • No Warranty: Datasets are provided "as is" without any warranties of accuracy, completeness, or fitness for a particular purpose, unless explicitly stated otherwise by the dataset publisher. We do not verify or endorse all Community Packages. Use them at your own risk.

5. Prohibited Conduct

You agree not to engage in any of the following prohibited activities:

  • Attempting to interfere with, compromise the system integrity or security, or decipher any transmissions to or from the servers running the Service.
  • Uploading invalid data, viruses, worms, or other software agents through the Service.
  • Collecting or harvesting any personally identifiable information, including account names, from the Service.
  • Using the Service for any commercial solicitation purposes unless explicitly permitted.
  • Impersonating another person or otherwise misrepresenting your affiliation with a person or entity.
  • Distributing illegal, harmful, or offensive content.

If you wish to terminate your account, you may simply discontinue using the Service or contact us to request account deletion.

In no event shall [Your Company/Organization Name], nor its directors, employees, partners, agents, suppliers, or affiliates, be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including without limitation, loss of profits, data, use, goodwill, or other intangible losses, resulting from (i) your access to or use of or inability to access or use the Service; (ii) any conduct or content of any third party on the Service; (iii) any content obtained from the Service; and (iv) unauthorized access, use, or alteration of your transmissions or content, whether based on warranty, contract, tort (including negligence), or any other legal theory, whether or not we have been informed of the possibility of such damage.
